A new way of being a tourist

MobileGuide is a multimedia tourist guide, available on PDAs and mobile phones. The guide detects the current position of the user (using GPS for outdoor environments and Bluetooth for indoors) and provides navigation information as well as multimedia presentations about the visited places, using audio, pictures, videos and 3D reconstructions. The main features of MobileGuide:

Ease of use
The functionalities of MobileGuide are immediately easy to use and do not require previous training to the tourist. The tourist can choose between a completely free-wandering mode and pre-defined theme tours.

Clear navigation instructions
MobileGuide provides easy to follow navigation instructions based on maps as well as simpler instructions (arrows overlaid on the pictures of the visited places) for the pre-defined tours.

Rich multimedia contents
The guide, according to tourist's position and personal interests, automatically presents multimedia information about the points of interest as soon as the tourist approaches to any of them. The tourist's experience can be further enriched by means of videos and 3D reconstructions, besides textual and audio information, especially for the most valuable and important artwork.

Suggestive 3D reconstructions
The exploitation of 3D graphics allows the tourist to open a "temporal window" on how the visited place looked like in the past or how it could look in the future, for instance due to planned renovations.

Easy search of points of interest
The guide provides search functionalities by category and distance, allowing the tourist to locate different kinds of points of interest (from cultural to amusement ones) and to know how to reach them.

Muliplatform contents
All the contents available for MobileGuide are developed by means of MobileGuide CMS, which allows to automatically convert them to be published on a web site, also in a mobile version (".mobi"). In this way, the contents can be easily browsed and downloaded from any mobile phone, also without positioning devices and without the MobileGuide software installed.
